“Its clean rational form and spaces are accented with a handmade terra cotta roof tiles stacked to create a patterned screen.”
It was designed to be modern and contemporary but possessing an unmistakable Sri Lanka essence. Its clean rational form and spaces are accented with a handmade terra cotta roof tiles stacked to create a patterned screen.
These roof tiles with a semicircular profile is a vernacular feature of local homes. Here, it serves as an effective rain and sun screen yet providing a pleasing foil to the white architecture.
eco.id designed much of the custom art work and partnered local artist and artisans to execute handmade sculptures.
In the lobby areas, oversized steel frangipani trees frames the entrances and reception table. These were made by welding discarded steel barrel straps.
The rooms’ walls are anchored by wire sculptures of local flora looking like spontaneous sketches of a botanist.
